When travelers on the Râd Angálaladh reached the highlands of central Mirkwood their first sight of the dreaded hills was a large knoll just south of the trail.This tree covered height was known to the Northmen as Gulch Hill due to the narrow ravine which lay along its eastern side. The Hill had long been rumoured to be a place of evil and indeem looming over the shadowy vale ,perched high on the side of Gulch Hill was a yawning cave mouth which marked the entrance to the lair of this areas most omnious denizens, it was a breeding place for Fell-beasts.
