Founded as Dûsalan (Har."salt-dream"?), Pop. 5,000, this was a vigorous market town on the Gondeithel estuary, on the frontier between Umbar's territority and Bellakar. It also contained a citadel built by Hyarmendacil. The town controlled waystations in the desert for the caravan trade.
It was renamed Badharkân (Har.:"Water-Lord") in the late third Age after Badharkân of Harad, a legendary ruler.
