Middle-Earth in the late third Age

in battle.

Farthest East

Third Age

  • early third Age - the Lôchaw were able to break the Rule of the Dog-Kings and to reestablish their former domain. The Shelf-Lands were freed from the influence of the Cult of the Shadow although the Kanks of Ruartar formed a small and barbaric Kingdom. It remained a well hidden secret that, guarded by the Kanks, the Shadow hid within the Iron Forest of Ruartar and started to regain much of his old strength. At his side gathered the nine Ringwraiths, among them the Dark Easterlings Khamûl and Dwâr.
  • T.A. 1 - Fulla XIV takes the throne of Ruuriik, beginning of the feud that separates the Blacklocks and Stonefoots.
  • T.A. 22 - the first Kank Rising.
  • T.A. 221 - the second Kank Rising
  • T.A. 100 - The Rule of Naug Zigildûn I marks the beginning of the Age of the Hammer
  • T.A. 280 - [[Naug Zigildûn is slain by Amis Shug
  • 1050 -When Sauron felt strong enough he returned to the Westlands and made up a hideout at Dol Guldur, posing as the Necromancer, a (lesser) dark Sorcerer.Meanwhile Khamûl built the Fortresses of Sart and Mang in the Wind Mountains to prepare his return, in time Dwar returned to his fortress Aalk Wâw.
  • between TA 1507 and TA 1617 - The combined Forces of Ruartar and Wâw broke the Rule of Lôchas Drûs, renewing the Dark Worship in most of the Shelf-Lands.Under pressure the Wômaw and Lôchaw empire split up in 1794 and various Lords emerged claiming to be rightful Hionvara. This was partially in reaction to the growing influence of the Wizards Lianis and Helaman on the Hion of Wômawas Drûs that encouraged him to withstand the continuing attacks by the Shay and Orcs.
  • T.A. 1639 - Druis discovers the Secret of the North
  • T.A. 1640 - the Journey of Naug II into the Westlands
  • 1794 - division of the empire of Lôchas Drûs.
  • 2400 TA - Khamûl finally was sucessful and with the combined forces of the Kank of Ruartar and Shay and the wild Tribes of the Rûbor and Vorgani the last divisions of Wômawas Drûs fell and the Eastern Domain came under the rule of the Lawmasters, a dark clergy enforcing the Law of Sûr.Helaman and Lianis at this time had already fled to the plains of central middle-Earth, hiding among the wild lawless steppe-nomads and Avari Elves, sewing Rebellion in Lurs Vorganis and among the Rahiwenna.
  • 2656 TA - the Mûl of Wômawas Drûs tried to expand into central middle-earth and unite his force with the Golden Army, but his efforts failed when an unexpected alliance of the Steppe-Tribes, eastern Dwarves and Avari-Elves destroyed his host at the borders of Feamardi and Luinemar. The Mûl was replaced and a rebel-Realm known as the Ôn arose in the far east, hunting down all remnants of the Servants of Sûr.
  • 3017-3019 finally Sauron felt he had recovered enough of his strength in a great Attack the eastern parts of the Golden Army and Steppe-Princes loyal to the Dark Lord united with the Armies of the Shelf-Lands and attacked the Ôn-Lords, but in the hour of victory Sauron's spirit was destroyed with the destruction of the one ring and his headless eastern Army could be repelled by the Rebels.

Khand

  • Continuing decline of Khaon. Its borders are pushed back to the Gap of Khand (v. Khandu Prakhod) in the north, and to the banks of Noz Peka in the south.
  • c. 10 Spurred on by Rakodsaol, the arch-priestesses of the sect of the Consuming Void take over the Hron Tumrakhi. Using its power they bring the Nikhad and Uljath tribes firmly under their control. The theocratic state of Khondu is formed in T.A. 11.
  • 17 The Achef Khurdriag of Khondu is determined to put down a threat of in the very heart of his crumbling domain. He leads his army against the Priestesses, but the withering sorcery of the Hron Tumrakhi's turns back his assault. The Achef agrees to a new association of power with the Hron Tumrakhi that later proves his downfall.
  • 21 The Achef dies at the hands of assasins. His replacement is secretly installed by the Hron Tumrakhi.
  • 113 Sickened by the weakness of his fellow Osvodar, and by the manipulative priestesses of the Hron Tumrakhi,a lesser Chieftain slays his Khurdriag and proclaims himself thusly. He quickly begins rooting out the agents of the Hron Tumrakhi, consolidating his strength.
  • 113-125 The power of the Hron Tumrakhi over Khondu is largely eliminated, holding out only in Khondu Amu and Ubesesh-uta-Paveter. The new Khur is afraid to challenge the temple itself, and thus Ubesesh-uta-Paveter is left to rule itself. The Uljath tribe remains loyal to the Hron Tumrakhi.
  • 483 Ivica Irbo takes the throne by treachery while the Orath tribes, led by Otok, battle easterlings in the north.
  • 485 Otok pushes the easterling tribes out of Pustrava with much slaughter. The migrations of the eastern hordes turn away from the lands of their fierce cousins.
  • 489 Otok assaults Ivica's forces in Lower Khondu, hoping to reclaim his stolen throne. The invasion fails when Otok is slain in a single combat during the Battle of Housefall (v. Kuthod Bitka-od).
  • 500 - 900bPeriods of war and aggression flicker along the borders of Khondu, involving the Ioriags with the later Nuriag, Asdriag, Chey, and Haruze. As well, conflicts between the seven Orodriag further destabilize Khondu. The worship of Tuilerwen spreads amongst the disillusioned Khaondians.
  • 540-555 Gereg Irbo, Khurdriag of lower Khondu, attempts to reunite Khondu. His diplomatic skills are thwarted by agents of the Hron Tumrakhi, so finally in 545 he resorts to force of arms. However, the Orodriag of upper Khondu are strong and are able to repel his invasions. When Gereg finally learns of the Hron Tumrakhi's trickery he redirects all his aggression against Ubesesh-uta-Paveter.
  • 1000 Sauron stirs again
  • 1050 Uvatha resurfaces in Endor, drawn by the awful presence of his master. He returns to Khondu and finds his homeland to be nothing but a pale, splintered image of its once ancient splendor. Making his strength in Olbamarl, he begins to plan the retaking of his land.
  • 1100 Uvatha slays Khurdriag Uonid Irbo and crowns himself King of the Khaondians. Within months, nearly all the Orodriag of Khondu declare their allegiance to the Horseman. In the same year, the Fire King reenters his old hold of Ulk Chey Sart.
  • 1102 Uvatha turns his attention upon the Hron Tumrakhi. Ubesesh-uta-Paveter is put under siege, and in eight months falls. During the siege Rakodsaol slays many of his closest servants, lest they reveal his existence to Uvatha and hence Sauron. He then flees to his hold in the Ered Harmal.
  • 1107 With the strength of Khondu's Orodriag once again reinstated, Uvatha unleashes them upon his first victims, the later Nuriag of Nurad. A combination of betrayals by Nuriag lords and the Chiefs of the Khandians results in the capitulation of Nurad within two months. Nurad remains tightly shackled to Khand for the next 500 years.
  • 1110-1240 The hurt caused by the long centuries of division amidst the Ioriag run deeper than Uvatha first suspected. The next century and a quarter is spent allaying these wounds and strengthening the resolve of the Khandian people. In particular, Uvatha attempts to purge the worshippers of Tuilerwen from his peoples ranks.
  • 1223 The Sacred Band invades lower Khand. After two indecisive battles the Khandians pull back in order to regroup, leaving Sturlurtsa to be put to siege. The priestesses of the Hron Tumrakhi cast a plague upon the invaders and drive them from Khand.
  • 1235 The Fire King marshals an army of disenchanted Cheyan warriors and re-embarks on a course of conquest. The Chey begin subjugating the neighboring tribes. The Chey alliance created to defeat the Haruze-Gondorian invaders at Calterc Prairie falls under the command of the Nazgul Ren the Unclean, leading to a new Chey empire.]
  • 1264 The Fire King reunifies all the major Chey tribal confederations.
  • 1264 - 1640 The Fire King rules the Chey Realms as Al Chey Sart. His people experience relative prosperity. The thirty-six Chey tribes extend their rule into the grasslands of Kargagis Ahar and carefully avoid the oppressive spectre of Khandian or Nuradian dominance that had haunted earlier eras. Trade between Khand and Chey Sart flourishes. The two peoples, guided by their undead Ulairi rulers, exist in an unspoken alliance until 1640.
  • 1246 Uvatha, leading the Khandians, begins a concerted effort against the Sagath of Southern Rhun. His offensive forces the Sagath to the north and west.
  • 1248 Pressured by the Khandians, and also in need of pastures, a large army of Sagath push into Rhovanion, hoping to take lands for their tribes' use. Their army is defeated and routed by an alliance of Gondorians and Northmen led by Minalcar and Vidugavia respectively. Minalcar pursues the retreating Sagath into the east, destroying their settlements as far as the Surubeki and beyond. Minalcar and Vidugavia campaign across southern Rhun in an attempt topermanently rid the area of nomads. The easterlings of southern Rhun are indiscriminantly persecuted by the crusading army, fostering their later

hatred of Gondor and the west. Uvatha pulls back his armies to avoid a western discovery of his return. The town of "Elgaer" is established by Folyavulda merchants as a supply outpost for the western army.

  • c. 1260 Uvatha withdraws from the center stage of Khandian politics and places a puppet, Khur, on the throne. Nomid Achef, of Uvatha's ancient porodith is the man who plays this role. The prosperous and well-populated realm of Relmether becomes the focus of Uvatha's attention. Its peaceful and stable alliance of Asdriag and Aharin peoples represent a threat to Uvatha's realm, united as they are to the plainsmen of Kargagis Ahar. Uvatha uses the Nuriags to begin a long campaign against the Relmetharins, consisting of frequent raids and forays into the land. However, Uvatha's plan backfires and serves only to unite and strengthen the Relmetharin resolve.
  • 1272 - 1300 Uvatha utilizes several of the more diabolical sects within the Hron-Tumrakhi to spread a blanket of terror over Relmether. In particular the assassins of The Claws of Dusk wreak havok on Relmether's leaders.
  • 1280 The Men of Khand launch offensives into southern Rhun that sack

Mistrand and further unify Nemol's followers. Uvatha fills in the vacuum left by the Gondorians, slaughtering the remnants of the Sagath and pushing them to the northeast. Mistrand is established as a base of Khandian power. The Asdriags along the southern shores of the sea of Rhun are brought completely under Khandian dominance relatively peacefully with the help of the ring-wight, Nemol. Nemol continues to serve his masters, acting as a messenger and courier between Dol Guldur, Sturlurtsa, and Urd.

  • 1296 Nomid Achef is slain by Uvatha and another Osvodar. Brodvaga Achef takes his place. Uvatha commands Brodvaga to lead the Khandians in victory over the Relmetharin
  • 1303 Brodvaga throws Khand's full weight against Relmether. The Riags of Northern Relmether bear the brunt of the Khandian invasion. They fight valiantly, and with great losses, against a numerically superior foe in order to protect the settled vales of Southern Relmether. The Khandians and Nuriags wreak horrible slaughter on the defiant Riag. The Aharin-speaking farmers and herders of southern Relmether, fearing the inevitable defeat of their nation, send an emissary of their four leaders, the Gapharis, to beg the bloodthirsty Brodvaga for peace. Brodvaga agrees after killing and torturing three of the four leaders. He rides into Relerindu, capitol of Relmether, at the head of his victorious army. The Aharians of Relmether do not forget the sacrifices of their Umadriag allies, forming a bond between their two peoples. Brodvaga returns to Khand with 30,000 slaves, most destined for sacrifice.
  • 1331? Brodvaga is slain in battle with the Sagath of Rhun shortly after the razing of Kelepart. His son, Odavith Achef, assumes the throne.
  • 1331 Nemol stirs the Urgath and Brygath against the Folyavulda merchants of

Elgaer. The main Khandian outpost is completely destroyed in an Urgath raid.

  • c.1330 Uvatha becomes aware of the persistence of the worship of Tuilerwen. The Hron Tumrakhi begins a ruthless 'spiritual cleansing' of Khand that lasts several decades.
  • 1438 Folyavulda merchants build a fort on the ruins of Elgaer in an attempt to re-establish the eastern trade routes that had once made them wealthy.
  • 1447-1451 Khandians under Uvatha conquer Lurmsakun. Victories on the Northern Plains follow; the second Khandian empire is at it’s greatest extent.
  • 1400 - 70 Pressures from the Sagath and Logath of Northeastern Rhun push Khand's borders back. Gondor's presence in the west is strong as well. Khand's territory about Mistrand is slowly threatened with isolation.
  • 1473 - 75 Sauron is alarmed by the movements of the Asdriags and orders Uvatha to halt their eastward advance. Uvatha rallies his armies and personally leads them first against the Sagath and Logath in Rhun, staging his assaults from Nurad. He hopes to redirect them westwards but fails to do so, only succeeding in driving them northward whence they had migrated from.
  • 1475 - 6 Next, using Relmethar as his base, Uvatha focuses his attacks upon the expanding Asdriag. His assaults are exceedingly brutal, carving out the heart of the Asdriag confederations. The Ahar of Dalpygis and Rycolin of Rycolis thrust the Asdriag out of their homelands. The Asdriag confederations collapse upon themselves and once again pay tribute to the coffers of Sturlurtsa.
  • 1477 An archpriestess of the sect of the consuming void , travels to the ancient and supposedly abandoned hold of Hlastuon. There she discovers it is not wholly abandoned, for it's lord, Yaria Feogur still dwells within it's walls. The rebirth of the cult of the Devourer (v.Rakodsaol) begins.
  • 1479-80 Khandian Raiding into Pezarsan. It is put down by Taskrel Jusan of Amrun.
  • 1490-1508 Emig Cosrah unites Pezarsan in revolt against Amrun. He then takes Lurmsakun from the Khandians, then subjugates Amrun.
  • c. 1500 The rivalry between Folyavuld and Mistrand manifests itself as a division between the Urgath and Brygath tribes of the Sea's southeast coast. Warfare erupts among the nomads of southern Rhun.
  • 1535-1549 Temer Cosrah subdues much of Chelkar. Intervention by Uvatha leads to a war with the Khandians, started at the behest of Sauron. This destracts Temer from his plans to conquer Harondor and the Ethirest, but drives Uvatha back into Khand.
  • 1551-95 The Khandians gain a tenuous control over Lurmsakun.
  • 1602 Despite Folyavuld's naval superiority, several key losses among the Urgathic allies of Folyavuld imperil the outpost at Elgaer.
  • c. 1600 Piracy on the Inland Sea hits an all time high as the merchants of both

Folyavuld and Buhr Armenrik sponsor privateers against one another's ships. Lest and Scari become rival ports, each harboring large privateer populations.

  • 1613-1622 With Uvatha often absent in Mordor, the Khandians are weakened. An alliance of Haruze lords rises in Pezarsan and drives them out of Lurmsakun.
  • 1620 The merchants of Elgaer make inroads with the Urgath of the sea's eastern coast in an attempt to establish trade routes with the Talathrant River Valley that circumvent Mistrand.
  • 1629 The rivalry between Folyavuld and Mistrand manifests itself as a division between the Urgath and Brygath tribes of the Sea's southeast coast.Warfare erupts among the nomads of southern Rhun.
  • 1633 - 4 The Great Plague sweeps in from the east. It reaches Khand from over the passes of the Ered Harmal in early 1633 and kills one in four people. Khand suffers less perhaps than its neighbors in Chey Sart and Rhun , but nonetheless it hurts. The Nuriags of Nurad, long chafing at the Khandian yoke and sensing the Khandian's natural retraction due to The Plague, rise up and execute their ruling Khandian osvodar. A short series of battles leave Nurad a ghastly, suffering wreck.
  • c.1633 The worship of Tuilerwen, put down by the Hron Tumrakhi in the 12th century, is revived amongst Khand's poorer, northern peoples.
  • 1634 With the subsidence of The Plague, Ovag Ito, Khurdriag of Khand, sets about to re-conquer the resurgent Nuriags. However, he dies of The Plague during the course of his campaigning. Despite Folyavuld's naval superiority, several key losses among the Urgathic allies of Folyavuld imperil the outpost at "Elgaer".
  • 1634 - 36 Uncertainty reigns in Khand until Ovatha Ito claims his father's throne in 1636. He immediately continues his father's efforts in Nurad, all but destroying the tribes therein. Survivors of Ovatha's aggression flee northward, blindly attacking the recovering Asdriag and Brygath of Southern Rhun. Whole regions of Rhun, already depopulated by The Plague, become like wastelands in the ensuing chaos.
  • 1640 Ovatha receives assurances of loyalty from the Khandian Osvoda of Relmether and Mistrand.Uvatha leaves Sturlurtsa, summoned to Mordor. His final command to the Hron Tumrakhi is to eradicate the followers of Tuilerwen
  • 1641 Ovatha, though severely depleted of men, begins pushing into the enfeebled Chey Nations. With minimal effort, he manages to subdue much of Northern Chey Sart. Tribes who refuse to acknowledge Ovatha's rule are wiped out, setting an example for the others to acquiesce. The Sanid ut Rakodsaol (v. Harem of the Devourer), working under cover of Uvatha's orders, captures Tuilerwen and imprisons her in Hlastuon in preparation for her sacrifice to the Devourer.
  • 1643 - 52 Leading his army and a large contingent of vassal Chey and Relmetherin troops, Ovatha crosses the Numahar and assaults the Ahar Nations of Kargagis Ahar. Known as the "Second Khandian Wars" to the Ahar, these battles continue for nine years. The Ahar Nations rally in the face of a genocidal enemy and force Ovatha back. After this defeat Ovatha concentrates on maintaining his hold over his vassal peoples.
  • c. 1650 The rise of a new confederacy of tribes in the Talathrant River Valley forces mass migrations of Ulgathic-speaking nomads into the western Telaith Lyst. These tribes form a powerful confederacy in southeastern Rhun called the Igath.
  • 1658 Uma Kalcuna is appointed "Overlord of the Chey" by the Khandians.
  • 1659 Uma Kalcuna leads his united nation across the Numahar in a sweeping assault that defeats much of the western Ahar.
  • 1664 Ovatha becomes concerned with Uma Kalcuna's rising power and popularity and so orders him replaced. A coup is instigated by the Khandians, replacing the Chey Overlord with a new, more malleable one. Parnelien Sey, an Aharin hostage of the former Chey Lords, is sent to Sturlurtsa.
  • 1668 Released in order to further Khandian interests in Kargagis Ahar, Parnelien returns to his home.
  • 1671 - 2 With Parnelien Sey leading their forces, the united Ahar Nations push the Chey out of Kargagis and invade Chey sart. An aging, but still vigorous Ovatha Ito leads an army against the Aharin in order to preserve and protect his holdings in Chey Sart. The united Khandian and Chey armies are defeated and routed when, ironically, Ovatha, the horse-slayer himself is crushed under his own horse. This defeat at the Battle of the Grass Tombs in Central Chey Sart marks the beginning of the Empire of Khand's decline and decay.
  • 1672 - 1854 The subject peoples and vassal states of Khand slowly break free of the Khandian spoke. In 1672, the Relmetherians, spurred on by Parnelien Sey and his Ahar Nations, rise up, casting out their Khandian lords and destroying the Temples of the Lord of Darkness.Khandian influence over the Asdriags, Nuriags, and UBrygath of Rhun, as well as the Chey of Chey Sart, slowly dwindles to nothing, owing to the internal bickering sapping the strength and will of the Khandian Khurs. As this influence fades, the Brygath begin migrating into the open steps of the southwest. The Igath experience a rich flourishing of their culture at this time and soon come to dominate much of Rhun. Though the Igath have cut off the territory of Mistrand from Khand, it is still ruled by Khandian Osvodor. As internal strife rocks Khand during the 1700's, civil war erupts in Nurad as tribes loyal to the Khandians battle rebellious clans. The highlands are held by the loyal victors and the rebels are forced into the hills of easternmost Pustrava.
  • 1854 The erosion of Khandian power incenses Uvatha and worries the Lord of the Rings. Sauron orders the Horsemen back to Khand to resume control of his ailing kingdom. With lightening efficiency, Uvatha settles the disputes between the Orodriag and pools their forces into an impressive cavalry army.
  • 1855 Uvatha leads the tribes of Khand and clans of Nurad, now counted amongst the Chorad orod, against the Nuriags of eastern Pustrava. The fleeing Nuriags begin to push into the lands of the and Igath. Uvatha hurls his army against the Brygath Wainriders who dwell about the eastern tip of the Ered Lithui. Many of these tribes are quickly conquered and brought under Khandian domination, yet a few escape into the pastures of their Igath cousins in Southern Rhun. The Brygath warn their neighbors of the VKhandian threat so that when Uvatha arrives at the head of his army, he finds the Igath surprisingly prepared. Uvatha himself rides into the Igath camps to parley. He offers the choice of peace if they withdraw from the Rhun into Rhovanion, or otherwise face the consequence of war.
  • 1856 Gondor loses its eastern territories to the Wainriders and Narmacil II falls into battle
  • 1856 - 99 Wainrider kingdom in Gondor.
  • 1855 - 65 Satisfied with his successes in Southern Rhun, Uvatha turns his attention to the Chey of Chey Sart. He uses Nuriags and his own troops to bully and subdue the tribes of Northern Chey Sart. His efforts here are minimal though, for most of his attention is turned to the west.
  • 1865 - 1921 With the ebbing of Gondor's power, Uvatha strikes out into the Harad, capturing the Res and caravan routes along the Ered Harmal and isolating Valarith. In his invasions he uses his Brygath Wainrider thralls.
  • c. 1935 Amrun is the last Haradim realm not under Khandian domination. Uvatha and the priestesses of the Temple of the Lord of Darkness assist the members of the Cult of Melkor in their attempts to seize control of the kingdom. These attempts ultimately fail.
  • 1939 - 40 Igath tribes, pushing out of Northeastern Kykurian Kyn, slowly edge the Khandians and Nuriags out of southern Rhun.
  • 1940 Uvatha, satisfied with his gains in the Harad and feeling (mistakenly) secure in the strength of his northern holdings, returns to Mordor.
  • 1940 - 44 The Igath, united under the charismatic Avas III, soon fill all of Southern Rhun , pushing the Asdriag tribes east and threatening Khands holdings in Nurad and the plateau itself. The Brygath, Khand's former vassals, give their allegiance to Avas III.
  • 1940 Ovatha Achef the III lays claim to the Throne of Khand, supplementing the Osvodor that Uvatha had left in power. His alliance with Avas III, forged in early 1940, secures his position as a Khurdriag.
  • 1944 An army of Igath invades Gondor from the north, while an allied force of Igath, Khandians and Haradrim attacks from the south. Gondor drives out the invasion, but at the cost of King Ondoher and both his sons. Ovatha is killed in battle against Earnil.
  • 1945 - 2003 Khand enters into a period of turmoil, as different Orods vie for power. However, Khand is still strong, thanks to Ovatha's tactful decision to hold back much of Khand's power in the attack upon Gondor.
  • 2003 Uvatha returns to Khand for his final reign. He first brings the Achef porodith and the Orath [[[Orod]] under his control. From there, by a series of coups, alliances and assassinations, he unites the rest of the Orodriag ander a new northern dynasty known as the Variags.
  • 2040 Relmether strikes out at the few remaining Nuriags of eastern Nurad, effectively wiping them out, in order to secure riverland for cultivation. Nuriags Extinct.
  • 2060 The power of Dol Guldur grows. The Wise fear that it may be Sauron taking shape again.
  • 2063 Gandalf goes to Dol Guldur. Sauron retreats and hides in the East. Uvatha withdraws into the shadows of Variag politics, but maintains control through his lackeys. Ren the Clean returns to Ulk Chey Sart.
  • 2065-2150 Khands hold over the tributary realms of the lower Noz Peka wanes. However, Variag traders and osvodar maintain strong interests in the region.
  • c.2100 Sauron notices the growing strength of Relmether, and of the other Aharin realms of central Middle-earth. He personally takes control of Chey Sart, via the Fire King, shaping it into a weapon to be used against Relmethar, Dalpygis and the Tribes of Kargagis Ahar. Uvatha undergoes similar preparations, gathering the might of the Orodriag behind him. Sauron appears before the Sefracara of the Hron Tumrakhi and orders all of her resources directed towards creating turmoil in Relmether.
  • 2124 Uvatha leads the assembled host of the Variag Orodriag against Relmether. Assasins of the Claws of Dusk and other sects, already in the area for the past twenty years, have created a climate of despair. Simultaneously, the Chey cross the Numahar and drive into the Ahar of the Kargagis.
  • 2124-2200 The wars between Khand and Relmether last over 70 years. By far, Relmethar suffers the most, yet is never wholly defeated by the Variags. Ren's campaigns in the Kargagis initially meet with more success, turning the region into a chaotic whirlwind of death and destruction. Counter invasions by the Men of Dalpygis and their sworn allies in Rycolis prevent Ren from annihilating the Ahar of Kargagis. By T.A. 2200 central Middle-earth is aflame in a war that knows no borders or mercy, just as Sauron had conceived.
  • 2135 Sauron leaves Ulk Chey Sart and moves further east.

Valley inavdes the Urgath and Brygath lands southeast of the Inland Sea.

  • 2392 The Urgath and Brygath tribes are assimilated into the Pultic hordes.

and Rhovanion.

  • 2460 Sauron returns with increased strength to Dol Guldur. The Balchoth, as they are later called in the West, assail Gondor. Their departure from their homelands leaves eastern Rhun empty. Settlers from Relmether take advantage of this, spreading into the uncontested region.
  • c.2600 The Chorad, mightiest of the seven Orodriag of Khand, have become almost entirely converted to the whorship of Tuilerwen. In T.A.2603 their Khur, Ovask Driond, proclaims Tuilerwen his goddess and denounces the Hron Tumrakhi.
  • 2604-2612 Civil war strikes Khand. It begins When Ovask leads his horse-warriors in an effort to sack the temples of Ubesesh-uta-Paveter. For 3 months the city is under seige, until Uvatha organises his armies and attacks from the south-west. The Chorad, fearing the Long-rider not, resist, plunging Khand into 8 years of conflict. Eventually the Chorad are pushed back into their homelands about the Gap of Khand.
  • c.2880 Uvatha increases the tempo of border raids into Relmether, and begins actively participating in them.
  • 2900-2950 Wars, known by the Relmetherim as the 'Brapholin Atova' (r.Twilight days). Uvatha leads his horse and foot armies into Relmether whilst Ren marches upon Dalpygis, accompanied by vassals of the Ahar Nations.Allies of Uvatha ride on Relmethar from the North.
  • 2922 Dalpygis is overrun by the Chey and it's capitol of Elpynir is razed. Rens armies turn westward, assisting the Variags against Relmether.
  • 2950 Uvatha withdraws his armies from Relmether and returns with them to Khand. Relmethar, though scorched and brutalized for 50 years, is undefeated. However, the Chey continue to assault Relmethar.
  • 3000-3018 Variag porodithi travel to Mordor at Uvathas beck, to serve in the host of the Dark Lord, already swollen with Variag warriors.
  • 3019-F.A. 2 Many porodithi abandon their orodriag and join the Chorad, whom did not participate in the War of the Ring.

Near-Harad

  • 1 – 470 Continuing decline of Khand. Its borders are pushed back to the Gap of Khand (v. Khandu Prakhod) in the north, and to the banks of Noz Peka in the south.

  • c.50-700 The Lords of Umbar seek to reconsolidate their old sphere of influence along the coasts and Harnendor, but many of the Haruze Kings now look to the Gondorian kings for patronage and stability, drawing the men of Gondor into frequent conflicts with Umbar and its clients.
  • 500 – 900 Periods of war and aggression flicker along the borders of Khand, involving the Variags with the Nuriag, Asdriag, Chey, and Haradrim. As well, conflicts between the seven Orodriag further destabilize Khand.
  • 550 – 950 The Varjev of Lurmsakûn conquer a dozen of scattered Haruze states, most of Pezarsan and cross the Ered Harmal to invade the Chey steppes. They declare protectorate over the Avari Elvish tribes of the mountains, something even Ûvatha had never achieved, and clear the way for a sudden burst of trans-continental trade. Standstill in the vales of the Ered Harmal between the Varjev in the north-west and the Chyan in the south-east, preserved only by their common interests in maintaining trade. During the following 400 years the uneasy peace is only broken by occasional Varjev raids against the Chyan Empire and unsuccessful attempts of conquest by the Chyan Great Kings.

She begs her grandfather for warriors to defeat the minions of the Shadow she saw in every eastern land. The King refuses.
  • 1222 Erenin leaves for Maresh, joining her father and the Grand Captain Turgon. They prepare a Sacred War for a final cleansing of evil from the lands of Middle-earth. Pell Vuk (or Rosethorn as he is called in the chronicles in the West) and Pegan Soy (or Whitetail) hear of the Dúnedain gathering west of the Suncrown. They make peace with the Variag on their western frontier and renew their alliance with the Ahar to the east, then send stern letters to Maresh, warning the Holy Warriors gathered there to consider that the Chey warlords, in their way, also fought the forces of evil.
  • 1223 The Sacred War begins. From Maresh the Sacred Band, some four thousand Gondorians and ten times that number of Haradrim, marches onto the Plateau of Khand. They break the Variag forces near the fortress of Ovatharac in sight of the peaks of the Suncrown and advance on Sturlurtsa Khand. Ûvatha, brooding in his dark palace, ignores Erenvil’s challenge to single combat. After a second bloody victory outside Sturlurtsa Khand ruins the main Variag army, plague breaks out in the city and the Sacred Band’s leaders refuse to risk a siege. Satisfied with their work, they march down from the plateau and into eastern Lurmsakûn. That autumn they cross the Ered Harmal, bypass the Avar forests, and secure quarters and supply in Heb Aaraan, east of the mountains.
  • 1224 Turgon and Erenvil strike out across the steppes and find nothing as their enemies retreat before them. They head first for Ulk Chey Sart, anticipating that the Chey and their allies will defend it. Instead, they find it erupting and spewing a foul smoke, polluting the springs and streams and killing the horses and cattle. After a battle at the foot of Ulk Chey Sart and the capture of Pegan Soy, the Holy Warriors pursue the seemingly retraining Chey to the north-east, intending to drive the Chey across their eastern frontiers and water their horses in the great river Numahar. Rhûn

Original Rhûn Timeline:

  • 490 - First invasion of Easterlings. These were the Hathig and Guvar.
  • 500 - Tarostar defeats the Hathig and Guvar Easterlings and takes the name Rómendacil I, "East-victor", in token of this.
  • 1634-36 -The Great Plague strikes eastern Rhûn with devastating results. Kelepar is abandoned.
  • 1634 -With the subsidence of The Plague, Ovag Ito, Khurdriag of Khand, sets about to re-conquer the resurgent Nuriags. However, he dies of The Plague during the course of his campaigning. Despite Folyavuld's naval superiority, several key losses among the Urgathic allies of Folyavuld imperil the outpost at "Elgaer". Note: Plague hits Khand before Southern Rhun
  • 1634 - 36 -Uncertainty reigns in Khand until Ovatha Ito claims his father's throne in 1636. He immediately continues his father's efforts in Nurad, all but destroying the tribes therein. Survivors of Ovatha's aggression flee northward, blindly attacking the recovering Asdriag and Urgath/Brygath? of Southern Rhun. Whole regions of Rhun, already depopulated by The Plague, become like wastelands in the ensuing chaos.
  • 1640 Ovatha receives assurances of loyalty from the Variag Osvoda of Relmether and Mistrand. Uvatha leaves Sturlurtsa, summoned to Mordor. His final command to the Hron Tumrakhi is to eradicate the followers of Tuilerwen.
  • 1640 The Sagath Tros clan invades the Ilanin region and seizes the ferry there. Tros demands a toll from the peoples of Gathod who wish to join the Witch-king's armies.
  • c. 1750 A new confederacy rises among the nomads of southern and eastern Rhûn. The religious state that forms is centered on Mistrand, and calls itself the Igath confederation.
  • 1642 Rakodsaol is slain by Tuilerwen
  • 1643 - 52 Leading his army and a large contingent of vassal Chey and Relmetharin troops, Ovatha crosses the Numahar and assaults the Ahar Nations of Kargagis Ahar. Known as the "Second Variag Wars" to the Ahar, these battles continue for nine years.
  • 1658 Uma Kalcuna is appointed "Overlord of the Chey" by the Variags.
  • 1659 Uma Kalcuna leads his united nation across the Numahar in a sweeping assault that defeats much of the western Ahar.
  • 1664 Ovatha becomes concerned with Uma Kalcuna's rising power and popularity and so orders him replaced. A coup is instigated by the Variags, replacing the Chey Overlord with a new, more malleable one. Parnelien Sey, a Aharin hostage of the former Chey Lords, is sent to Sturlurtsa.
  • 1668 Released in order to further Variag interests in Kargagis Ahar, Parnelien returns to his home.
The united Variag and Chey armies are defeated and routed when, ironically, Ovatha, the horse-slayer himself is crushed under his own horse. This defeat at the Battle of the Grass Tombs (ah. ___________) in Central Chey Sart marks the beginning of the Empire of Khand's decline and decay.
  • 1672 - 1854 The subject peoples and vassal states of Khand slowly break free of the Variag spoke. In 1672, the Relmetherins, spurred on by Parnelien Sey and his Ahar Nations, rise up, casting out their Variag lords and destroying the Temples of the Lord of Darkness. Variag influence over the Asdriags, Nuriags, and Urgath/Brygath of Rhun, as well as the Chey of Chey Sart, slowly dwindles to nothing, owing to the internal bickering sapping the strength and will of the Variag Khurs. As this influence fades, the Urgath/Brygath begin migrating into the open steps of the southwest. The Igath experience a rich flourishing of their culture at this time and soon come to dominate much of Rhun. Though the Igath/Brygath have cut off the territory of Mistrand from Khand, it is still ruled by Variag Osvodor. As internal strife rocks Khand during the 1700's, civil war erupts in Nurad as tribes loyal to the Variags battle rebellious clans. The highlands are held by the loyal victors and the rebels are forced into the hills of easternmost Pustrava.
  • 1854 The erosion of Variag power incenses Uvatha and worries the Lord of the Rings. Sauron orders the Horsemen back to Khand to resume control of his ailing kingdom. With lightening efficiency, Uvatha settles the disputes between the Orodriag and pools their forces into an impressive cavalry army.
  • 1854 Uvatha returns to Khand after a long absence and launches attacks against his neighbors with renewed vigor. The Igath under Avas I and with the councils of Nemol decide to migrate into the richer lands of Rhovanion rather than fight the more powerful Variags.
Many of these tribes are quickly conquered and brought under Variag domination, yet a few escape into the pastures of their Igath? cousins in Southern Rhun. The Brygath warn their neighbors of the Variag threat so that when Uvatha arrives at the head of his army, he finds the Igath surprisingly prepared. Uvatha himself rides into the Igath camps to parley. He offers the choice of peace if they withdraw from the Rhun into Rhovanion, or otherwise face the consequence of war.
  • 1855 Oraishapek stirs the Logath and Sagath into joining the Wainrider Confederation in their war against Gondor and the Northmen.
  • 1856 Gondor loses its eastern territories to the Wainriders and Narmacil II falls into battle
  • 1856 The Battle of the Plains. King Narmacil II is killed in the battle and Dor Rhûnen is abandoned.
  • 1856 - 99 Wainrider kingdom in Gondor.
  • 1856-1899 The Wainrider Kingdom dominates all of Rhûn and Rhovanion. The Ehwathrumi are forced to migrate into the Anduin Vale. The Northmen of Rhovanion are driven into Mirkwood and Lake-town is occupied by Easterlings. Folyavuld is occupied and resistance to the Wainrider regime is confined to the highlands, where it is persecuted by Oraishapek's Orc servants.
  • 1899 King Calimehtar defeats the Wainriders on Dagorlad.
  • 1899 Rebellion against the Wainriders sparks in several places throughout Rhovanion simultaneously. At the same time, King Calimehtar and the Ehwathrumi confront the Wainriders at Dagorlad. The Wainriders are defeated and retreat into the eastern Talath Harroch, but the Ehwathrumi are unable to return to their former ranges.

  • 1940 Ovatha Achef the III lays claim to the Throne of Khand, supplementing the Osvodor that Uvatha had left in power. His alliance with Avas III, forged in early 1940, secures his position as a Khurdriag.
  • 1944 An army of Igath invades Gondor from the north, while an allied force of Igath Variags and Haradrim attacks from the south. Gondor drives out the invasion, but at the cost of King Ondoher and both his sons. Ovatha is killed in battle against Earnil.
  • 1944 The Wainriders and Variags launch a two-pronged assault on Gondor. In the south, the Easterling alliance is defeated by Earnil. In the north, King Ondoher and his two sons are slain as Gondor is defeated by the Wainriders. Earnil surprises the Wainriders at the Battle of the Camp and drives them out of Ithilien with heavy losses. Rhovanion is largely unpeopled.
  • 1975 Angmar and Arthedain destroy one another. The Witch-king gathers the Ringwraiths in Mordor.
  • 1977 The Eotheod move into the upper vales of the Anduin.
  • 1980-81 Durin's folk awaken a Balrog in Moria and are forced to abandon their hallowed home.

  • 2003 Uvatha returns to Khand for his final reign. He first brings the Achef porodith and the Orath Orod under his control. From there, by a series of coups, alliances and assassinations, he unites the rest of the Orodriag.

  • 2063 Gandalf goes to Dol Guldur. Sauron retreats and hides in the East. Uvatha withdraws into the shadows of Variag politics, but maintains control through his lackeys. Ren the Clean returns to Ulk Chey Sart.
  • 2063 Gandalf goes to Dol Guldur but fails to discover the Necromancer's identity. To avoid discovery, Sauron eludes the wizard and flees into the east.
He personally takes control of Chey Sart, via the Fire King, shaping it into a weapon to be used against Relmether, Dalpygis and the Tribes of Kargagis Ahar.
