The Brown Lands

The desolate and treeless hilly region between Mirkwood and the Emyn Muil was aptly named the Brown Lands (S."Berennyn"). Legend held that the Entwives once made their gardens here before the wrath of Sauron drove them off.
During the time when Gondor still controlled its Eastern territories, Berennyn was one of the three royal Garthath of Dor Rhúnen and ruled by House Barandor of Morthond.
