Brodda, called also 'the Incomer', was an Easterling in Hithlum after the Nirnaeth Arnoediad who took as wife Aerin, kinswoman of Húrin. He was slain by Túrin Turambar.

Etymology[]

There is a lot of debate as to the exact origin of Brodda's name, but it's probably not at all Elvish in origin, but rather a name given by his own people. It's been suggested to have Germanic origins, though it could also be from an old Irish Gaelic word for "excess" or "rich", which Brodda himself likely was, or it could come from the Slavic word for river-crossing "Brod", which would fit well with him being an "incomer" from the East.
