In T.A. 1944, Khand made a peace treaty with the Wainriders of Rhûn, who in turn united with the Haradrim. Together the three mannish armies waged war with the forces of Gondor, Rhovanion, and Dorwinion. This battle took place after the Disaster of the Morannon, where King Ondoher of Gondor attempted to rout the northern alliance of Wainriders. He failed, and was slain along with his sons, Artamir and Faramir.
Following this disastrous event, the Gondorian Captain Eärnil had led Gondor's inferior Southern Army to victory over the Haradrim, destroying their army in South Ithilien, to the north of the Poros. After his victory, Eärnil turned north.
While despoiling the baggage-camp of the Northern Army, the feasting Wainriders suddenly found their success reversed, as Eärnil appeared with his Southern Army, reinforced by fleeing members of Ondoher's defeated northern troops. Eärnil's army descended on the unprepared Wainriders, driving many of them into the swamp-lands of the Dead Marshes. The Easterlings, for so long a dreaded enemy of Gondor, did not march against Gondor for hundreds of years afterwards. The battle was named after where it had taken place: the Battle of the Camp.
It should also be noted that Forthwini alerted King Ondoher of Gondor of the growing threat, and later the Éothéod joined the armies of Gondor in battle against the invaders.
It also should be noted that Dorwinion most likely participated in this battle as well, for not only being close to their region, but after having endured the forces of Rhûn for sometime--and there are notes that state the Blue Wizards were named "East Helper & Darkness Slayer." A possible reference to their help in this battle against the lesser Men in T.A. 1944.
