Hére (Éo. "Dignity") was a Rohir princess who was the younger sister Haleth and Háma, and the third child of Helm Hammerhand and Éowyn Ethelfléd.

Freca tried to convince Helm to give Hére to his son Wulf for marriage, Helm smote him down with his fist, killing him instead. As Wulf sought vengeance for his father and forced Helm and his people to make a desperate last stand in the Hornburg, Hére summoned the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.

Other versions[]

According to another tale, Helm's daughter became the lover of another warlord, named Sárríc who wanted her father's throne. After he had died from a deadly arrow-wound following an ambush he returned as a Wraith and attacked his assassin, however, when his daughter tried to stop her father's rage, Hammerhand accidentally struck her down, killing her with his war hammer.

(Middle-earth: Shadow of War)

Notes[]

original form in The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim: Hera = Hére She is called "Bernwyn" in Middle-earth: Shadow of War Another Alternate name 'Aelda' appeared in fanfiction: The Drawing Room: Giving names to some of Tolkien’s textual ghosts

Hera is an anglo-saxon word meaning "male servant", Bernwyn would mean "Joy of Barns", Aelda is not a proper Anglo-saxon form, but "Ældu", which would be "Eldu" in Rohirric, means "old age". Neither of the three would be an appropiate female name for a princess of Rohan, therefore they are here replaced by a corrected form.
